NFPA fire protection design
NFPA-based engineering for fire protection systems, industrial hazards and energy infrastructure across South Africa.

Engineering services (NFPA design capabilities)
FESOL provides engineering design and technical review where NFPA standards form part of the agreed project requirements. We translate the protection objectives into a documented design basis, coordinated drawings, calculations and specifications.
Our work connects the system design with the building, process, operating conditions and supporting manufacturer evidence. Clients work directly with the principal through the agreed stages of the appointment.
Standards and connected services
The following capabilities support project-specific NFPA design appointments.
Sprinkler systems
Hazard and storage information, system layouts, hydraulic calculations and design specifications.

The appointment identifies the applicable standards and editions, the protection objectives, project specifications, insurer requirements and the authority’s submission or acceptance requirements. Any differences or unresolved interfaces are recorded for agreement with the responsible parties.
In South Africa, the NFPA design basis is coordinated with the applicable local regulatory requirements, SANS provisions and the building’s rational fire design. We connect the specialist systems with the SANS 10400-T fire plan and the wider professional team’s information.
From engineering requirements to project delivery
- Design-basis reports and hazard-specific protection requirements
- Engineering calculations, layouts, specifications and equipment schedules
- Technical review of manufacturer and contractor design submissions
- Coordination of detection, release, shutdown and mechanical interfaces
- Design reviews for existing systems, upgrades and changes of use
- Commissioning requirements, witness scope and handover evidence where appointed
Discuss an NFPA design appointment
Send the project location, facility type, design stage and required systems, together with any specified NFPA standards or insurer requirements. For an existing installation, include the available drawings, calculations and test records so that the review can start from the installed condition.
