Engineering services (Energy & hazardous materials)

Battery energy storage, photovoltaic installations, generators, fuel systems and gas-related facilities raise different fire safety questions. The protection strategy should be grounded in credible equipment information, the site arrangement and the consequences relevant to the project. A conventional building-system approach may not address every interface.

Fire engineering input must be coordinated with process safety, electrical design, hazardous-area classification, environmental requirements and emergency response where applicable. Specialist analyses and regulatory responsibilities are defined in the appointment; their completion is not implied by a general fire safety review.

Scope of expertise

The appointment is defined around the facility, available information and required project outcomes. Relevant services can include:

  • Fire engineering input for battery, solar, generator and energy installations
  • Review of hazard information, separation and exposure considerations
  • Fire protection, detection, ventilation and shutdown interfaces
  • Fuel, flammable-liquid and gas facility fire-safety considerations
  • Coordination of hazardous-area, explosion and process-safety specialist input
  • Emergency access, incident response and operational interfaces

Design and deliverables

We establish the technology and hazard information, identify credible project-specific concerns and define the engineering scope with the client and specialist team. Recommendations distinguish the fire engineering contribution from additional assessments required by other disciplines.

Fire-safety requirements and identified specialist interfaces

Documents and engineering information appropriate to the defined appointment and project stage.

Technical review and further-investigation recommendations

Recorded findings, requirements and matters for resolution by the responsible parties.

Project information

Provide equipment data, site layouts, inventories, operating philosophy and existing risk studies. Identify the responsible electrical, process and other specialist designers.

The scope, deliverables, site involvement and responsibilities are confirmed for each appointment.
