Engineering services (Fire investigation)

Fire investigation work depends on the purpose of the appointment and the condition of the available evidence. Site observations, photographs, records and system information need to be considered within a defined investigation scope. Conclusions should distinguish established facts from assumptions and unresolved questions.

Access, evidence preservation, chain of custody and the involvement of insurers, authorities or other specialists can affect the work. Laboratory testing, forensic specialties and legal proceedings require appropriately appointed expertise. An initial review does not imply that a cause can be established from incomplete information.

Scope of expertise

The appointment is defined around the facility, available information and required project outcomes. Relevant services can include:

  • Scoped fire incident and technical document review
  • Site observations and available evidence assessment
  • Review of protection-system and operational information
  • Identification of testing or additional specialist investigation needs
  • Technical reporting with documented limitations
  • Engineering recommendations arising from supported findings

Design and deliverables

We agree the investigation purpose, review the available evidence and define the appropriate technical work. Reports separate observations, evidence, analysis and limitations. Further investigation needs are identified where the available information does not support a reliable conclusion.

Incident review and technical findings

Documents and engineering information appropriate to the defined appointment and project stage.

Evidence gaps and further-investigation requirements

Recorded findings, requirements and matters for resolution by the responsible parties.

Project information

Provide the incident background, access status, available photographs, reports and system records. Confirm who controls the site and the evidence before arranging an inspection.

The scope, deliverables, site involvement and responsibilities are confirmed for each appointment.
